I am excited to report that Pacific’s PRSSA Chapter is off and running with some great events planned for this year! We had a very productive meeting last Thursday wherein we identified several guest speakers, workshops, and social events that we will organize this academic year. Some imminent events include:
1) This Thursday, October 11, we are hosting a Pizza Social at the Lair in the DUC from 12pm – 1pm. This will be a great opportunity for prospective members to meet and chat with current members to find out more about membership benefits. Come for the free food, but stay for the great conversation!
2) This weekend is the National PRSSA conference in San Francisco. I will be attending from Friday to Sunday, in addition to two of our members. This will be not only a great learning event, but also an excellent opportunity to meet students from across the country who are interested in developing a career in public relations. I am looking forward to all of the excellent speakers lined up, especially Biz Stone, one of the co-founders of Twitter.
3) On November 15, we are hosting our first speaker panel of the year focusing on how organizations are using social media to build community around their services and products. We have a very diverse panel lined up including: 1) Corin Imai from Hewlett-Packard; 2) Josh Morgan from Edelman Digital in Sacramento; and Jeremy Neisser from the Stockton Ports baseball organization. The event will be a “brown bag” lunch from 12pm – 1pm. More details, including location information, will be forthcoming. Hope to see you there!
What an exciting semester ahead! As you can see, PRSSA is a fantastic pre-professional organization where you can learn directly from top industry professionals, network with other students, and develop your skills. I encourage all students interested in developing a career in public relations and communications to join today. Membership dues must be submitted by November 1, 2012.
See you on Thursday at the Social!
